01 · Challenge
Outdoor living, sheltered from the weather
The owners of a 1980s detached property in Apeldoorn-Zuid rarely used their back garden due to the unpredictable Gelderland weather. A veranda of 20 m² provided the solution: a covered terrace running along the entire rear garden front of the property. The challenge lay in connecting to the existing eave gutter and finding the correct slope for drainage so that rainwater does not run towards the garden.
02 · Our approach
Timber frame with polycarbonate roof panels
We designed a cantilevered veranda in Douglas fir timber with a gentle slope of 3 degrees behind the existing eave gutter. We resolved the roof plane with double-walled polycarbonate channel panels that transmit light but are weather-resistant. The structure is fully self-supporting on four posts, so no intermediate uprights are needed. The connection to the existing facade is finished with a waterproof aluminium fascia profile.

Four seasons outdoors
The veranda has now been in place for a full year and the owners are enthusiastic. The 20 m² covered outdoor space is pleasant even on rainy days. The polycarbonate channel panels allow plenty of natural light while keeping solar heat gain acceptable. The contractor installed the structure in four days based on the drawings and details provided by Tekenpunt. The project was completed well within the clients' budget.
